Top 10 Reasons Train In Mexico | Mexico Cycling

Mexico has some of the best and most diverse cyclings in the world and is a favorite destination to train and vacation. The one resounding thing that we hear from all of our guests is that Mexico is one of the best places that they have ever cycled.

#1 Proximity to Canada and US.

Many cities have direct and non-stop flights with a total travel time of well under 5 hours. I know a lot of people that go to Hawaii, Europe, or even drive to the Okanagan from Calgary. A direct flight to Puerto Vallarta cuts a lot of hours off the travel time. Flights have been as cheap as a $500 return from Calgary!

#2 Cost

The cost of living in Mexico is dramatically lower than in the US or Canada. Everything from accommodations and transportation to food can be quite a bit lower. For example, a mid-range hotel in Phoenix (using the Homewood Suites in Phoenix/Scottsdale) will run you $1,267 for one week.

#3 Quiet Safe Roads

Contrary to popular belief, there are some amazing secondary roads that can provide you with hundreds of kilometers of cycling options. We have several amazing rides that we put on our schedules. Some of our rides include nice easy flat country farm roads just east of Bucerias, beautiful rolling terrain from Punta de Mita to Sayulita, an epic cobblestone climb to the town of San Sebastian and so much more!

#4 Courteous Drivers

Contrary to expectations, the average Mexican is extremely courteous towards cyclists. Unlike many of our North American residents who seem to view cyclists as annoying flies in the ointment, most Mexicans are very patient with us. they understand that this is a form of transportation and respect it accordingly. In fact, many are not only happy to see cyclists but will take the time to shout words of encouragement!

#5 The Sierra Madre Mountains

If you are looking to climb, you have come to the right place. The region of Jalisco neighboring Bucerias and the state of Nayarit has some of the best if not world-class climbs. Miles upon miles of leg busting seesaw climbing and some gradients that could possibly make you cry is one very good reason to choose to train here

#6 The Food

The food in the region is both amazing and diverse. There are all the options that one would expect in North America plus the most delicious Mexican fare you could imagine. Vegans and Vegetarians rejoice! Mexico not only has an abundance of fresh in-season fruits and vegetables, but they are also available for a fraction of the cost compared to back home in Canada or the northern United States

#7 The Beach

After all those miles on the bike, there is the beach to enjoy. Spend some time chilling, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, etc. Destinations such as Arizona, California, and the interior of BC either don’t have it or it is still too cold during the winter or early spring. From simple beachside relaxation in Bucerias to Surfing in Sayulita. we have some of the best beaches located all along the Nayarit and Jalisco coast.

#8 The Weather

Outside of August to late October, you are almost guaranteed rain-free training with optimal temperatures hovering in the high 20s to low 30s in early and late spring. If it does rain, it is usually sporadic and at least the rain is warm!

#9 The Culture

Mexico has both a diverse and friendly culture making it a great destination to visit training aside. Many times when we travel to a sunny destination we stay close to what we know. Getting on the bike allows you to explore a whole new side of Mexico that you may not have ever seen. From old colonial towns in the mountains to the big city (PV), there is never a shortage of things to do and places to see.
