Mascota Climbing Camp

Multi-Day and Overnight Cycling Tours From Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Mascota Climbing Camp | 6 Days

My favourite way to experience what Mexico offers is to embark on an epic multi-day cycling adventure. Whether you keep it local and explore the “Valle” of Bucerias, venture into the vast mountain range of the Sierra Madre, or embark on the epic Velta de Jalisco to Tequila and beyond. There is certainly a multi-day ride for every skill level!

This world-class multi-day climbing camp is based in Mascota in the state of Jalisco Mexico. Mascota is a sleepy little farm town but is surrounded by a spectacular mountain range called the Sierra Madre. It spans all across western Mexico as far as the southwestern United States

The Sierra Madre is a climber's dream and it's right in our backyard!

This custom group camp is available with a minimum of 4 riders. This tour is perfect for intermediate & advanced riders looking to really challenge themselves or take their game to the next level.

Guests will fly into Puerto Vallarta where you will be greeted by a Bici Bucerias representative. Night one will be based in the town of Bucerias where our shop is located! The rest of the camp will take place in the town of Mascorta with the final day ending up in the beautiful “Puebla Magico” San Sebastian del Oeste.

Day 2 | Bucerias to Mascota | 113 km | 2624 Meters

Day 2 starts with the initial ride into Mascota. We start early in the morning and ride out from the Bici Bucerias shop. The ride starts off perfectly with a nice flat roll through the valley. Once past the town of El Colomo, we will cross the river. Get ready for a bit of gravel and your first taste of cobblestone as you go through Las Palmas.

Las Palmas is the gateway to the high mountains and there will begin our climb to El Paso de la Virgen (The Virgin Pass). The climb starts out gentle with a lot of up and down. The last 11 km to get to the top of the pass is very steady with sections of 8 - 18%.

Once over the pass we will ride through a majestic pine forest and make our way to Mascota which will be our base for the next 5 nights.

The ride is 113 km with 2624 meters of elevation.

Day 3 | Mascota to Talpa de Allende | 120 km | 2624 Meters

The ride will depart at 7:30 AM and you will experience the true magic of a sunrise ride in the Sierra Madre as we make our way to the Pueblo Magico known as Talpa de Allende.

A very beautiful ride that includes a short but very steep climb to the top of a ravine where we will stop for a photo and take in the views of the town below. The descent to Talpa is FAST and FUN! In Talpa, we will grab a coffee, some tasty pastries and maybe even Jalisco's famous goat birria! After Talpa, we make our way back to the Ranch in Mascota.

Day 4 Mascota to Ayulta | 177 km | 3471 Meters

This is the big climbing day! The true pinnacle of climbing in the Siera Madre mountains. Day 4 departs at 7:00 and we make our way to Ayutla and back. We will stop for a light lunch in Ayutla before we head back to the ranch in Mascota.

Day 5 Rest Day or Optional Short ride | 42 km | 1000 Meters

Tomorrow is a big day so day 5 will be a rest day to regroup and recharge. Take this time to explore the town of Mascota! For those who would like to spin the legs, a shorter ride to the Talpa sign is available and will depart at 9:00 am.

Day 6 Mascota to San Sebastian del Oeste & La Bufa | 177 km | 3471 Meters

There have been several famous cyclists who have taken on San Sebastian, but only a few have conquered La Bufa!

DO NOT let the distance and the total elevation fool you! This will be one of the hardest climbs you will ever do in your life and that is our GUARANTEE!

An EPIC cobbled climb with you riding through dirt, pavement, cobble, and one of the meanest and most demanding climbs in the country. If the challenge to get to San Sebastian was not enough, well then you are ready for the final 10 km of riding where you will gain over 1100 meters of elevation over cobble and dirt.

The reward is an incredible view at one of the highest points in the entire Sierra Madre.

We will end in San Sebastian. All riders will have the option of taking the shuttle down. We do not recommend the descent unless you are a true warrior or just insane ;)

We will spend the rest of the day and evening in San Sebastian. A celebratory dinner will be held and you will be loaded with some of the most delicious food to nourish your body and recharge.

A nice sleep and wake up at your leisure depending on your flight time. Riders will be driven to the airport 3.5 hours prior to their departure.

You did it! Felicidades (congratulations)
